ABOUT GRACE OTLEY
WHERE I COME FROM
I was adopted from Vietnam when I was one year old. Since then, I've had an enormous amount of opportunities to seek higher education as well as pursue some of my strongest passions in life.I was Miss Delaware's Outstanding Teen in 2014 with the Miss America Organization, A Coca Cola Scholar in 2017, as well as Distinguished Young Woman in 2017. I went to Cab Calloway High School and Charter School of Wilmington for my freshman year. I currently attend the University of Delaware as a Communications and French double major and a Business Administration and Advertising double minor. My biggest passions in life include music (electric violin, piano and singing) and advocation for children to find as many opportunities in life that will lead to success, just as my parents helped me to do.
WHY RED CLAY SCHOOL BOARD?
My goal in running for RedClay school board is to become a voice that represents my generational and personal experiences as a current student. I have held many state and national titles that have opened my eyes to the various opportunities that exist for students to become involved in. Also, having watched my mom as a dedicated school teacher in the Red Clay School District for 30+ years, I've learned and observed the importance of having people who truly care about the well being and success of students, inside and outside of school. I know the difference it makes in a student's life when administration or teachers care about you and view you as the person you are instead of as a statistic. I've experienced both circumstances throughout my educational journey, and given that a committee is supposed to represent diversity, I think I would bridge the generational gap that currently exists in order to bring new mindsets and perspectives on issues.
